Some Important Information
One of
the most important duties of your marriage celebrant is to officially register your marriage with the Registrar of Births
Deaths and Marriages, in the capital city of the State where is was performed.
The Official
Marriage Certificate you receive on the wedding, is a legal documents and will prove you are married but is no longer an ID
document.
To change your name with Driver’s Licence, Passport, Bank Accounts, Centrelink etc these organisations will
require you to produce a copy of the Registered Certificate.
You can apply for this Registered Marriage Certificate at any time by going to Service
Tasmania with your Birth Certificate and make application.

If you intend to travel out of Australia and
use your Marriage Certificate in another country, this country may require and Australian Consuls Apostille Stamp.
