The marriage act has three requirements in any Legally recognised
Marriage Ceremony conducted in Australia by an authorised Celebrant. 1. Somewhere the ceremony the required words from Section 46
of the Marriage Act as follows, must be word for word “My name is Peta Callahan and I am a Civil Celebrant“I am duly authorised by law to solemnize marriages according to lawBefore you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence
of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to
enterMarriage according to law in Australia,
is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life” 2. A vow by each
I call upon those present to witness that I……. take you ….….)
to be my lawful wife/husband 3. Your full names must be said clearly
somewhere in the ceremony.
After this the ceremony is virtually entirely up to you.
You can write
your own vows to add to the ceremony.
